Wow, the self-proclaimed democracy par excellence is on its knees .....
A small minority (in numbers, but with unimaginable wealth) is stopping the US government. Is this what the founding fathers had in mind? .....
The Supreme Court has decided that corporations are people (Citizens United), rolled back the Voting Rights Act and the country is held to ransom over universal healthcare, something we Europeans take for granted.
Where is the humanity?
Is it fair to place the USA in that wonderfully politically incorrect category of third world nations? Just think about the following:
- The USA has at least 15 percent of its population living at, or below, the accepted poverty level
- The USA has, as a percentage, more of its population incarcerated than either China or Russia
- Cuba has a higher literacy level than the USA
- USA citizens die because they do not have access (i.e. the money) to healthcare
The USA was founded by revolutionaries, not reactionaries, yet now we see that country back under the stranglehold of tyrants (no longer foreign kings, now large corporations), which have de facto taken over Congress.
All we hear about is reducing the deficit ...... fine, a disproportionate amount of your tax dollars goes to the US military (which spends more per annum than Russia and China combined) - might this in any way affect foreign policy decisions? (e.g. let's throw a few Tomahawks Syria's way).
As an outside observer, I am just so concerned that the situation has arisen whereby education is considered marginal, where science is trumped by religious superstition, where it is important to control womens' bodies, where very obvious WASP agendas are influencing immigration policy, where a delirious "war on drugs" and "war on terrorism" are understood by every thinking human being (except the US Administration) to be a triuphant reward for the arms industry and bigger government ....... er, hang on, I thought the Republicans were against a big, intrusive government - ROFLMAO!!!!
Really guys, the founders of the USA were amazingly progressive - the Constitution spells it out ......... is this what they had in mind?
Hey, I am a Brit, living in Mexico - what do I know, right?
